Dr. Lal took a leap of faith in 2005. He gave an order to a hitherto unknown company to implement a Hospital Information System at Metro’s flagship hospital in Noida. Today, we are proud to say that we’ve been associated with the Metro Group for 2 decades. NextGen’s HospiLogix is running at 13 locations of the Metro Group of Hospitals. The application handles more than 300,000 transactions every month, and is tightly integrated with Oracle Financial.
While we started with just the one hospital, we implemented gradually at 3 more locations. We then saw Metro through a rapid expansion phase, where we implemented HIS at 6 hospitals within 2months. As these deployments were client-server based, Metro management had a need for transparent real time information from all these location.
We implemented a Central Store System for central procurement, then a Central Reporting System to pull all relevant purchase and financial data centrally, and finally integrated with Oracle Financial, becoming the first implementation of an HIS integrated with Oracle Financial in India.
Bridge Health is a technology-enabled membership-based healthcare service, founded by Kris Gopalakrishnan. They were previously using a cloud based EMR service for their needs, but the new CEO soon realised that he needed to own the IP for his tech, as their model was a unique one.
However, they had a small in house IT team, and their CTO was moving on. We’d worked with their CEO during his tenure at GE, so when he was looking for a company to build their proprietary technology platform, he came back to us. We signed on with Bridge Health to build a bespoke technology platform, unique to them, and to hand over the IP and source code once they built their in-house team.
As they were still in start-up mode, Bridge Health and NextGen worked together to build all the process flows, which changed several times as they grew at breakneck pace. After many cups of coffee, and twice monthly visits to Bengaluru over 9 months, we’d built their membership and invoicing platform, their mobile apps and had migrated their old data, bringing in efficiency and smooth process flows. Today, their in-house team handles their technology platform from end to end.
The Indian Air Force had contracted with a technology major to build them a proprietary centrally hosted Hospital Information System for all of their hospitals.
Unfortunately, the project was considered a failure. While the Indian Air Force had the source code of a Hospital Information system, it was clumsily built, riddles with bugs (>1100 on testing), and did not have a multi-locational structure. As a result of this, it went live, only in part, at only one of their locations. Disillusioned with this, the Indian Air Force tendered once again – this time for a “Dr. Fix-It Solution”.
The new vendor was to take the existing source code, fix the bugs, change the structure to a multi-locational architecture, and implement it across all their locations. This was outsourced to NextGen by another technology major. The result was a centrally hosted application, live at 11 locations, in 2016. This was the first custom government project that NextGen took on, and soon after, fuelled by the success of this project, the company took on many more.
Tech Mahindra won the prestigious project for the computerization of the Indian Ports. As they lacked domain expertise on the healthcare side, the Hospital Information System for the Indian Ports was outsourced to NextGen. Having done other government projects before, NextGen was confident in taking this on.
This was a complex project, particularly as some of the Port Hospitals were already running individual Hospital Information Systems. Requirements (which were often at odds with each other), had to be taken from all locations, and rationalized to create a single document. To add another layer of challenge, soon after NextGen received the order, the Covid pandemic struck, and a lot of work that was ordinarily done on-site had to be done remotely.
NextGen’s HIS, HospiLogix was customized for the specific requirements of the ports, UAT was done centrally, and the application was deployed at a single Data Centre. Hospilogix was also integrated with 17 other applications, including SAP. Data Migration was done from all sites, and users were trained at each individual site.
Mediversal Group of Hospitals started with a dream to reimagine healthcare in the state of Bihar. Our journey together started as a discussion and whiteboarding exercise in our Kolkata office between 3 dynamic young co-founders and our team. Immediately post-closing the order, the pandemic hit! Mediversal’s flagship project, their 250 bed multi-specialty hospital in Kankarbagh, Patna got commissioned amidst the pandemic. In a short while, the hospital stood by its commitment of professionalism coupled with clinical excellence with a human touch.
Amid much back and forth and co-ordination, the hospital went live at a time when many were afraid to travel. NextGen and Mediversal worked together to dispel many fears and myths amongst our teams, and punched back with a successful Go-Live in June, 2020. This Go-Live at a challenging time was a testament to the teamwork between NextGen and Mediversal.
Today, we are proud to be the partner of such a dynamic and professional hospital group. Emboldened by the success of the first Go-Live at a difficult time, 3 more Mediversal Hospitals went live in 2023 – Mediversal Bone and Joint Hospital, Begusarai, Mediversal Health Studio, Patna, and Mediversal Maatri, Patna.
Healthcare in most countries is either insurance-led (the USA) or state-led (the UK). The best way to describe Healthcare in India is patient-led. This results from a “khichdi” of healthcare options being available to patients, depending on their
